What is a Business Card?

A business card is a small, credit card-sized, printed paper card that conveys a business' contact information such as name, title, address, website and others. Companies and individuals hand out business cards to their clients or potential customers to share that information.

A business card has many potential benefits apart from just sharing your contact information.

What Information Should Be on a Business Card?

Before designing the business card, you should know what to include on the front and back of your card. It is better to utilize both sides of the card for maximum impact. So, here is what should be included on the front and back of your card.

On the Front:

Business Name

The first thing you should include on your business card is your company name. This is standard across most industries and will be the first thing the person reading your card sees. If they are not already familiar with your company or brand, the name will pique their interest enough to learn more about you.

Logo

Display your logo on the front of your business card to add credibility, trustworthiness and professionalism to your card. Your logo should be aesthetically appealing to catch your audience's attention quickly. This helps to solidify your brand and gives your cardholders something to associate you with visually.

However, if you haven't created a logo for your business, use Visme's free online logo maker to create a unique logo in minutes.

Tagline

A new study found that 50% of people say a company's slogan is essential when deciding to make a purchase. Include your tagline on the business card. It will communicate the message about your company and its products and services that your logo and business name can't explain.

If your business doesn't have an official tagline, summarize your offerings to create one. Include it on the front of your card, ideally just below the business name.

On the Back:

Your Name and Job Title

Add your full name along with your job title or position to create a personal connection to your business card. The person looking at your business card should immediately understand your position in the company and what they can expect from you.

Teams need a business card for each employee, meaning that each card has a different name and job title. Rather than editing all of the business cards manually, use dynamic fields. Add [First Name] and [Last Name] fields to a business card design and save it as a template in your workspace. When you change the dynamic field value, the change will be reflected in all the projects that contain that field.

Website and Contact Information

Include your contact information, such as phone number, mailing address, physical address and email address. You can either use all of them or at least one contact method.

Besides basic contact information, you can include the URL for your website. It can be the home page, about page, contact page or any other landing page. If you are a professional graphic designer or writer, include the URL to your digital portfolio.

QR Code

If you want to add more information but are running out of space, add a QR code to your business card. It will help your customers find more information such as your latest offers, discounts and even your business story.

Visme's new QR code generator allows you to add QR codes to any project with just a few clicks. Check out our guide to learn how to make a QR code for free or watch the video below to see this in action.

Social Media Handles

Adding social media handles to your business card will take it to the next level. Also, it will build trust and credibility and put a face to your business name. Tell your customers where they can learn more about your business and its offerings.
